MNHC week: Gov Yusuf commits ₦670m to combat malnutrition, improve child health

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his commitment to tackling malnutrition and enhancing maternal and child health by releasing ₦500 million as counterpart funding to UNICEF for nutrition initiatives in the state.

In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf made the declaration during the official flag-off of the second Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Week held in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

In addition, the governor announced the allocation of ₦170 million for the renovation and upgrading of malnutrition treatment centers and referral centers aimed at combating child killer diseases and improving access to life-saving healthcare services.

“This administration is resolute in its mission to fight malnutrition and prevent diseases that threaten the lives of our children.

“By committing these funds, we are taking a bold step toward ensuring a healthier and brighter future for our children and families,” the governor stated.

The MNCH Week delivers essential healthcare services, including immunizations, antenatal care, nutritional supplements, and public health awareness campaigns, targeting the most vulnerable populations in Kano State.

Governor Yusuf noted that these interventions are part of his government’s comprehensive strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, reduce maternal and child mortality, foster sustainable development and access to quality healthcare services in Kano state.
