ABUJA — Darlington Nwauju, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has described the policies and programmes of the Ministry of Interior under Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as a “civilian revolution.”

He praised the ministry’s achievements over the past two years as surpassing its performance since 1999.

In a statement on Tuesday, Nwauju highlighted the recent launch of eGates by President Bola Tinubu as a testament to the ministry’s efforts to ensure safer borders and enhance internal security.

Key Achievements of the Ministry:

Immigration Service: Launch of contactless biometric passports and deployment of over 40 eGates at major international airports (Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Enugu, and Port Harcourt).

Correctional Services: Rehabilitation of correctional centres and improved welfare for personnel.

Fire Service: Remodeling of the fire service academy.

Paramilitary Reforms: Promotion of over 50,000 officers across agencies.

Technology and Security: Establishment of a command and control center, the Safe School Initiative, and enhanced e-passport facilities.

Nwauju noted that these accomplishments reflect innovation, effective planning, and teamwork, achieved largely through public-private partnerships at minimal cost to the government.

He commended Dr. Tunji-Ojo for transforming a ministry once perceived as inactive into a model of excellence, earning admiration both domestically and abroad. According to Nwauju, the ministry’s performance sets a high standard for public officeholders and supports calls for more youth to be appointed to leadership positions.

“The Interior Ministry under Dr. Tunji-Ojo has become a benchmark for effective governance, making it a key asset for the Tinubu administration,” he added.
