JOS — Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau South in the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to support credible governance initiatives and avoid fear over tax reform proposals, regardless of their origin.

Speaking in Jos on Tuesday, the senator addressed concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms, emphasizing the importance of trust and cohesion among Nigerians for national progress.

On Trust and Unity: “We shouldn’t live in fear. Nigeria is a great country. We must be cohesive and trust one another. Sometimes, bills from certain regions are met with distrust, but I assure you that we will evaluate their pros and cons to ensure they serve Nigerians’ interests.”

On Economic Challenges: Plang acknowledged the current hardships, noting, “Change is always difficult. It’s not just ordinary Nigerians feeling it—we are too. When your constituents are hungry, it affects you. However, if financial benefits from reforms are properly reinvested, they will alleviate people’s suffering.”

On Tax Reform and Leadership: He commended President Tinubu’s originality in addressing challenges, adding, “Nigerians want to see the pros and cons of policies before accepting them, and that is fair. As representatives, we’ll ensure the people’s voices are heard.”

Advocacy for Education and Mining Development: The senator reiterated the need for a University of Mining and Geosciences to train experts who can maximize Nigeria’s mining sector potential.

Christmas Outreach: Ahead of the festive season, Plang distributed bags of rice to his constituents, saying, “Christmas is significant for Christians worldwide. I wanted to contribute, even in a small way, to help my constituents celebrate.”
