The Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh, celebrated his 40th anniversary on the throne over the weekend, declaring that Ikare-Akoko has transitioned from a township to a thriving city under his reign.

The week-long celebration attracted sons and daughters of Ikare-Akoko, as well as dignitaries from various sectors, who gathered to honor the monarch at Lenon Jubilee High School.

The event featured a blend of cultural displays and entertainment in a vibrant atmosphere of unity and celebration.

In his speech, Oba Momoh expressed profound gratitude to the High Chiefs who played a pivotal role in his ascension to the throne.

“The event we are witnessing today was made possible by the resoluteness of our revered High Chiefs, who elected me out of many qualified princes. Though many of them are no longer with us, may Allah grant them Aljana Fidaus,” he said.

Reflecting on his reign, Oba Momoh noted that Ikare has experienced significant growth and transformation, cementing its status as a city. He urged the people of Ikare to prioritize peace and unity, emphasizing that development thrives in an atmosphere free from conflict.

“We must shun any act capable of causing avoidable mayhem. I pledge to continue to serve with wisdom, compassion, and strength, ensuring our Kingdom flourishes under the guidance of Almighty Allah.”

Representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, commended the monarch for his four decades of unwavering commitment to Ikare’s growth.

“Two scores in leadership is no small feat. As one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in the state, Oba Momoh has enriched the traditional institution with his wisdom and experience,” Takuro said.

The governor acknowledged Ikare’s strategic importance as a commercial hub in the Akoko region and praised the monarch’s dedication to fostering peace and development in the community.

Senator Jide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, lauded the monarch’s role in Ikare’s transformation.

“Ikare has witnessed significant development across all sectors under Oba Momoh’s leadership. I urge everyone to continue supporting him for the progress of our beloved community.”

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Elder Alex Akande, described the 40-year reign of Oba Momoh as a milestone worth celebrating.

“This anniversary symbolizes peace, progress, and blessings for both the monarch and the Ikare community,” he said.

As part of the celebration, a book titled ‘The Crowned Legacy: Glorious Reign of HRM Oba (Alh.) Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV, the Olukare of Ikare’ was launched. The book, reviewed by Prof. Busuyi Mekusi of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), chronicles the monarch’s legacy and contributions to the community.

The anniversary celebration not only honored Oba Momoh’s remarkable leadership but also served as a rallying call for the people of Ikare to remain united in building a prosperous future for the city.
