Elizade University was buzzing with energy as it hosted its highly anticipated Mini Olympics from June 16 to July 9, 2022. The event united students, staff, and local community members in a spirited festival of sportsmanship and camaraderie, featuring competitions in track and field, basketball, soccer, table tennis, and volleyball.

The tournament concluded with a thrilling finale, with the Faculty of Humanities, Management, and Social Sciences, FHSMS emerging as the overall champions. Their breathtaking performance included an impressive haul of 14 gold, 4 silver, and 12 bronze medals, affirming their dominance in this year’s events. “Winning the Mini Olympics is an incredible feeling, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our teammates and coaches,” said a jubilant team captain.

Key highlights included a stunning relay race victory that elicited roaring cheers from the crowd, alongside a tightly contested basketball final, where FHSMS edged out the Faculty of Engineering for the title. “The atmosphere was electric, and it felt amazing to compete in front of such an enthusiastic crowd,” stated a member of the winning basketball team.

The event not only showcased athletic abilities but also fostered community engagement. Hundreds of attendees—including students, staff, and local residents—created a vibrant environment that celebrated teamwork and unity. “The organization of the event was top-notch, and it was wonderful to see so many people coming together,” remarked a proud faculty member witnessing the competitions.

The success of the Mini Olympics was a product of careful planning and cooperation, with Sports Coach Promise Iheanacho playing a vital role in its execution. Building on his experience from events like the Elizade Staff Games and the Vice Chancellor’s Cup, Iheanacho secured sponsorships that provided critical resources, including sports equipment and promotional materials. “Mr. Promise was instrumental in seeking and securing sponsorships for the Mini Olympics, a feat that greatly enhanced the quality of the event,” said a senior committee member.

The Mini Olympics also emphasised inclusivity and wellness within the university community, with events designed to encourage participation from both students and staff. “Competing in the Mini Olympics has been an unforgettable experience—it’s not just about winning, but about coming together as a community,” shared one enthusiastic student athlete.
