Nine months after a violent clash between students of Kingdom Bible College, Ozu Abam, in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State, and Ndiokorie Community, Abam clan, the family of David Ogbonnaya, one of the abducted students, is still calling for justice and intervention.

At a press conference in Umuahia, Mr. Abel Ogbonnaya, younger brother of the missing student, urged the Abia State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue his brother. He appealed to Governor Alex Otti to help secure David’s release, noting the devastating impact the incident has had on their aged parents.

Abel recounted that on March 6, 2024, David and other students were ambushed by armed youths from Ndiokorie while on the school farm. The attack resulted in one student being killed, seven abducted, and several others injured. Six of the abducted students were later rescued with the intervention of soldiers from the 14 Brigade Ohafia, but David’s whereabouts remain unknown.

“We need our brother back alive. If they have killed him, they should release his body so we can give him a proper burial,” Abel pleaded.

The family expressed frustration over delays in the investigation and the lack of accountability for the attackers, despite awareness by various authorities, including the Abia and Ebonyi State Governments, lawmakers, and security agencies.

Abel alleged that interference might be obstructing justice, citing the attack on a member of the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Team, who was abducted and injured by the same group during the investigation.

When contacted, Hon. Uchenna Okoro, member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, explained his role in responding to a distress call during the clash. He denied obstructing justice and stated that he had worked to mediate between the parties and escalate the matter to Governor Otti and the Police Commissioner.

“Anybody claiming I’m frustrating investigations is lying. My community is Atani Abam, not Ndiokorie. My only interest is ensuring peace among my constituents,” Okoro said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Abia, Maureen Chinaka, stated she would provide updates after reviewing the case details. Meanwhile, Force Headquarters PPRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, requested additional details for an official response but had not replied as of press time.

The family continues to hope for justice and the safe return of David Ogbonnaya, urging authorities to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
