Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two men, Oladeyo Idowu and Monday Ogunniyi, in the Oja-Odan area of the state for allegedly engaging in rituals involving human parts.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday night.
The case unfolded when Idowu initially reported the abduction of one Regina Oladeyo, accusing Ogunniyi of the crime. Police investigations, however, revealed a shocking twist, as Ogunniyi reportedly confessed to the crime and implicated Idowu as his accomplice in the use of human remains for rituals.
Odutola stated: “On December 16, 2024, at about 1630 hrs, Oladeyo Idowu from School 4 Area, Oja-Odan, came to the police station to report a case of abduction involving Monday Ogunniyi, who resides in the Okegbala area of Oja-Odan.
“The abducted individual, Regina Oladeyo, was located in the suspect’s home. During questioning, Ogunniyi confessed to the abduction but further implicated Idowu, revealing their involvement in rituals using human remains.”
Further investigations uncovered that the two suspects had conspired to source human parts from a decomposing corpse for their rituals.
“A team of detectives visited the site and discovered a dried human skeleton with female clothing draped over the remains near a river in the Afige area of Oja-Odan,” Odutola added.
Ogunniyi reportedly provided details implicating Idowu in the storage and dismemberment of the corpse, along with evidence, including photographs and other exhibits, recovered by the police.
The Ogun State Police Command has stated that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts of the Ogun State Police Command to combat criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
