LAGOS- WIFE of  Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola; Film maker, Mr. Tade Ogidan; Dr. Yolanda George-David; Mrs. Bimpe Giwa and Chief Executive Officer, Rise Networks, Miss Toyosi Akerele, were among speakers, who, yesterday, lamented the sad state of affairs in Nigeria. They blamed poor parenting for the problem.

They noted that lack of adequate parental care was a major factor responsible for societal decay, stressing that parents must not neglect their primary role of child training to the school or religious organisations, but give necessary support at all times.

Speaking at the Parenting forum, organised in Lagos by Lagos Empowerment and Resource Network, the speakers charged parents and guardians to wake up to their responsibilities.

Mrs. Fashola said: “The task of educating spiritually, morally, and socially is the primary responsibility of parents and guardians. It is the general consensus that societal values are fast being eroded. These days, parents frown at their wards or children being corrected by a third party, a practice we must change with effect from today.”

Noting the importance of parents in the development of children, Mrs. Fashola said those roles cannot be transferred or abdicated.
