Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Patrick Ekeji has saluted the effort being made by presidents of sports federations ahead of this summer’s London 2012 Olympics.

Ekeji noted Thursday  in Lagos that the various federation presidents have gone ahead to camp their athletes at different Nigerian cities without waiting for the sports commission.

“I must confess to you that I am impressed with what the sports federation presidents are doing. They have gone ahead to camp their athletes without waiting for the NSC. This is the kind of spirit we need to excel at international competitions.”

Ekeji was particularly full of praise for the presidents of wrestling, Hon Daniel Igali and Weightlifting Mazi Chimdi Ejiogu.

“Igali has been camping his men in Yenagoa and our weightlifters are in Owerri where Ejiogu has made sure all is well. I am delighted with the way these men are doing their job,” Ekeji said.

It would be noted that 18 Nigerian wrestlers jetted out yesterday for Morocco where they are to compete at the African championship which is also serving as qualifier for the Olympics. The wrestlers before departure were all decked in well made suits courtesy of Hon Igali.

The weightlifting team are billed to storm Kenya later this month for the African championship which runs from March 28 to April 4. The NSC has already given approval to the Weightlifting federation’s request to hit Kenya with a full team of 15 weightlifters.
