By Etop Ekanem

Head of Sustainability at TGI Group, Yosola Onanuga, has highlighted the need to embrace circular economy practices to enhance resource efficiency and reduce waste in agriculture and food production.

Speaking at the 12th West African Clean Energy and Environment Conference (WACEE) in Lagos, Onanuga underlined TGI Group’s commitment to sustainable business.

According to her, “Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy requires significant investment, but the long-term benefits—both economically and environmentally—are immense. “At TGI, we’ve embedded circularity into our business model. From food production to agribusiness, we focus on maximising resource recovery, ensuring that every part of the process adds value.”

Onanuga also stressed TGI’s innovative work in its rice milling operations, where agricultural by-products are transformed into energy, adding: “Our rice production facility in argungu, Kebbi State, is a great example of how waste can be turned into a resource. By utilising by-products from rice processing, we are not only reducing waste but also generating power for our operations, demonstrating the tangible benefits of a circular economy.”

Onanuga reaffirmed TGI’s alignment with Nigeria’s environmental goals as well as the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its commitment to sustainable business practices.

The conference, brought together key stakeholders from across West Africa to address environmental challenges and explore innovative solutions in the renewable energy sector.

The discussion also focused on how government policies can further encourage the private sector to adopt circular models.

TGI Group remains committed to advancing the circular economy across its diverse sectors, including agribusiness, oil and gas, and manufacturing. With a focus on sustainability, the company continues to lead by example, ensuring that its business operations support both environmental stewardship and economic development in Nigeria and across West Africa.
