Mohbad’s Inquest: Lagos socialite raises alarm over prosecution decision

By Yinka Ajayi

Lagos socialite Ayobami Sodiq, also known as “Spending Sodiq,” has raised the alarm over the Department of Public Prosecutions’ decision to proceed with his prosecution over the death of Ilerioluwa Imoleayo, aka Mohbad.

According to Sodiq, “The Lagos State Government initiated a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s sudden death on September 26, 2023. Sodiq attended and presented evidence, which his solicitors claim exonerates him from liability.

“Proceeding with prosecution before the inquest concludes may undermine the fairness of the process, potentially leading to wrongful charges or conflicting conclusions.

He urged the Director of Public Prosecution to reconsider and allow the inquest to run its course.

He said, “This premature prosecution risks unfair charges and damages public trust in the justice system.

“Let the coroner’s inquest conclude transparently, ensuring a fair investigation free from bias.”
