In a commitment to advancing education in Africa, the non-governmental organization SOHCAHTOA recently awarded scholarships to 100 undergraduates from various tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The inaugural edition of this initiative attracted over 18,000 applications, from which the recipients were selected.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony held recently in Lagos, SOHCAHTOA co-founder Mrs. Solape Fayemi disclosed that this undergraduate scholarship is part of the foundation’s efforts to support students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. Fayemi emphasized the foundation’s belief in the transformative power of education and its dedication to helping students succeed.

“The Foundation is set to kick-start the Back-to-School Drive and Undergraduate Scholarship Program,” she said. “The back-to-school initiative will provide essential items—books, writing materials, shoes, bags—to pupils and students in public schools, while the scholarship program targets undergraduates in Nigerian public institutions.”

She added, “This year, in our maiden edition, we selected one hundred beneficiaries from over eighteen thousand applicants across the six geo-political zones. We are excited to expand this impact in the next academic year.”

Each scholarship recipient will receive N250,000 annually for tuition until they complete their programs. Fayemi expressed the foundation’s commitment to helping young people fulfill their dreams and contribute positively to society. She urged private organizations to join efforts to support education, noting, “The government cannot do it alone; private organizations must use their resources to impact society.”

Fayemi encouraged the scholarship recipients to maintain good grades, as renewal of the award requires proof of satisfactory academic performance.
