Engaging youths through creative art, way to go – Aregbe

In a bid to ensure that youths are positively engaged, the Lagos State Government has kicked off the Lagos Creative Vaults with no fewer than 50 participants as a pilot scheme.

Mr Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the governor on Tourism Arts and Culture, disclosed this at a news conference to launch the initiative at the Lekki Creative Arts and Crafts Market, on Friday.

Idris confirmed in a space of three years, 3000 youths would have been trained in different vocational skills within a period of 18 months.

“The Lagos Creative Arts Vault is an initiative I strongly believe in this is to train about three thousand youths to become future creatives for excellence which Lagos is known for.

“Lagos remains the major hub for entertainment, culture and art these are some of our areas of strength and we need to tap into it and create opportunities and wealth for our teeming youths.

“Like the saying saying an idle hand is the devil’s workshop, we need to engage these impressionable population that makes up the highest percentage of our population,” he said.

The Special Adviser who reiterated the commitment of t Sanwo-olu’s administration to empower the youths and arrest restiveness among street urchins.

” I want to appeal to participants to utilise the opportunity to become employers of labour by tapping from the wealth of knowledge of local and international trainers at their disposition,” Aregbe said.

The Lagos Creative Arts Vault Consultant, Mr Debo Oyewole and an international trainer from South Africa, Mr Yulisa Maddy, assured participants on intense theoretical and practical experiences during the course of their training in different vocational skills.

Some of the vocational skills includes furniture making, fashion designing, Creative and Entertainment Arts, Catering, Digital marketing as well as customer service engagement.

The highpoint of the event was the birthday celebration of Aregbe where he distributed cash of N2 million to 10 traders at the Lekki Creative Arts and Crafts Market to boost their businesses.
