The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), has praised President Bola Tinubu for directing the immediate release of minors arrested and prosecuted over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests, with the condition that the law remains respected.

In a statement released yesterday in Abuja, Senator Musa expressed his gratitude for President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to accountability within law enforcement. “I convey my gratitude for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, appreciation for his leadership, and a firm stance on the need for accountability within law enforcement,” he stated.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced to State House correspondents in Abuja that President Tinubu had directed the release of all minors arrested in relation to the protest.

The President also instructed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to oversee the welfare of these minors.

Additionally, he ordered an investigation into the actions of law enforcement agents involved in the arrest, detention, and prosecution of the minors, with disciplinary action to be taken against those found culpable.

Senator Musa commended the President’s decisive and compassionate directive, saying, “This action demonstrates a profound commitment to justice and humanity and reflects a true spirit of leadership. It is both a relief and a source of reassurance for families affected by these unfortunate incidents.”

He further criticized the actions and comments of the Inspector General of Police regarding the minors, calling them “senseless” and detrimental to public trust in law enforcement agencies.

“Such actions undermine public trust and contradict the principles of justice and the welfare of our children,” he noted.

Senator Musa urged a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and called on all stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future. “Let this stand as a reminder that the rights of minors must be respected and protected at all times,” he concluded.
