Concerned residents of Oshodi, Mafoluku, Sogunle, and Ewutuntun, O.M.S.E have issued a 14-day ultimatum to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) Oshodi Business Unit, Okota to meet demand.
The group placed a demand seeking end to estimated billing and the replacement of the current estimated billing system with a fair, transparent, and meter-based billing method.
They also demanded for free meters to all households in the community to ensure accurate billing and the resolution of all outstanding overestimated bills.
Chairman of Electricity Committee, O. M. S. E, Mr. Kola Ajayi, said that failure to address the concerns would compel the prohibition of Ikeja Electric Enforcement Unit from operating in the community, until satisfactory resolution is achieved.
Also, Chairman O. M. S. E, Engr. Babatunde Faleye, added that the community is deeply concerned about the persistent harassment and intimidation of electricity workers who disconnect power supply.
He said: “This issue is exacerbated by inflated and unjust consumption costs. We have documented numerous instances of: billing for non-existent or removed analog meters; unaddressed faulty meters, despite reported complaints; imposition of exorbitant estimated charges without justification.”
