The esteemed traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Obi Dr. Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, finds himself the target of fresh accusations, allegedly orchestrated by a group of landgrabbers aiming to undermine his efforts to restore order.
In a troubling development, a recent petition submitted to the Department of State Services (DSS) and subsequent media reports accuse the Obi of land grabbing, abuse of office, and other unsubstantiated allegations meant to damage his reputation and endanger his life.
This orchestrated attack is reportedly carried out by people who are, ironically, entangled in alleged criminal activities within the community.
Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, denounced these accusations, attributing them to a long-running smear campaign. He stated, “These individuals have, for years, launched baseless accusations about the Obi, from claims of a ‘killer squad’ to allegations of kidnappings. Their aim is clear—to distract from the Obi’s efforts to clean up Ogwashi-Uku and safeguard community resources.”
As the rightful custodian of Ogwashi-Uku’s land, the Obi has enacted transformative measures, including distributing nearly 2,000 free plots of land to Ogwashians—an unprecedented gesture in the kingdom’s history. His reform efforts to ensure equitable land distribution challenge an entrenched group that has profited from unchecked land sales, diverting wealth from the community.
Beyond land reform, the Obi has committed significant resources to infrastructure development. His administration has installed new transformers to enhance electricity supply and initiated projects to restore water access across Ogwashi-Uku. The Obi-in-Council has also prioritized security, funding robust safety initiatives to protect residents.
Elder John Emordi from the Kingdom remarked on the Obi’s historical role in land management, saying, “These accusations aim to undermine the Obi’s authority and disrupt the positive transformations he is implementing. The community knows that he is reclaiming our resources from those who would see them exploited.”
As HRM Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II continues his mission for a secure, equitable, and prosperous Ogwashi-Uku, he faces resistance from those invested in his failure. However, the community stands firm in support of his unwavering vision for positive change in the kingdom.
