Umuahiua— Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state has enjoined the Northern states Governors to treat Christians living in their midst with the same amount of love, which Muslims are treated in Abia state.
Orji who gave the charge when the Abia state Muslim community paid him Sallah homage in celebration of Eid-El-Fitri, noted that every state government has a duty to take good care of non-indigenes and those who practice different faith from the dominant religion in every part of Nigeria, who reside in the state.
“At this point, it is imperative to request our brother Governors and governments of Northern states to show the same love to our people living in the North as we show to you (Muslim community) by giving them land for their programmes and show homage as we have always done hereâ€, Orji, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Chris Akomas, said.
He said that as a mark of love, Muslims in Abia have always been shielded from reprisal attacks any time religious crisis erupted in the North.
The Governor reminded his colleagues from the North that “respect is reciprocalâ€, pointing out that since “we are one and must continue to work together as one united people†there was the need for every Nigerian to feel free and safe in any part of the country.
