Hardship: PTECSSAN blames FG on maltreatment of Nigerian workers by foreigners

By Ediri Ejoh

The General Secretary of the Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PTECSSAN, Okonu Abdullahi, has blamed the federal government for the precarious treatment of Nigerians under different sudo companies in Nigeria.

Speaking during the picketing of Huawei technologies, Okunu who insisted that the government is to blame, said, “When you have organisations that believes in enslavement of workers, they believe they can come into this country and maltreat Nigerians.

“We have written to their SBCs, they told us that there’s nothing they can do and in a situation whereby network providers outsource recruitment and those once too would also outsource recruitment and the salaries of workers remain stagnant, there’s no pension, no health insurance policy. The risks these guys go through at the course of their job are dispeakable.

“The Minister of Labour will call these companies for meetings; they would not turn up.

“The lapses are largely on the government to address the nonsense going on.

The union further demands the immediate reinstatement of the three unjustly sacked members of the union,  recognition of the fundamental right of the employees to freely associate with the union, recognition of the union as a negotiating body for the employees welfare, remittance of membership dues into the union’s account as earlier provided, recognition of the years of service of these workers, commencement of appropriate pension deductions and remittance of the same as required by the pension act, and enrolment of union members in the group life insurance as stipulated in the Pension Reform Act 2004, Section 9(3), among others”.
