Nyako tasks politicians on free and fair elections

YOLA -  Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State said the defeat of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in two House of Assembly re-run elections recently by its archrival, the  AC, was an indication that the state government does not interfere with the conduct of elections in whatever way.

He observed that the two elections were free and fair, devoid of any malpractices.
Nyako, who received the state executive council of the PDP who paid him the traditional Eid-el Fitri homage, pledged that his administration would not in any way interfere with conduct of elections.

He enjoined the political class to re-examine their mode of conducting elections, noting that past conduct of elections in the country does not tell well of the politicians.

Nyako advised that Nigeria should imbibe the culture of conducting free and fair elections to project the image of the country in good light to the international community.

The governor also gave an assurance that the forth coming by-election for the House of Representatives for Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha would be free and fair.

According to him, all level playing grounds will be given to all the political parties in the selection of their candidates during primaries and the election proper.

Nyako who is the PDP leader in the state charged the party stakeholders to remain resolute in their selection of candidates for the poll, assuring that PDP will emerge victorious in the election.

Earlier, Adamawa State chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Umaru Mijinyawa Kingama, had called on the state government to assist the party to construct its secretariat.

Adamawa State Council of Chiefs and Emirs led by its President and Lamido Adamawa, Alhaji Aliyu Mustafa, paid similar Sallah homage to Governor Nyako.
