Labour demands names of politicians with links to Boko Haram

BY VICTOR AHIUMA-YOUNG
TRADE Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, yesterday, demanded that names of politicians said to have links with Boko Haram be made public and be brought to book if found culpable.

TUC in a statement by its President-General and Secretary, Comrade Peter Esele and Chief John Kolawole, while reacting to the re-arrest of Kabiru Sokoto at Mutum Biu Taraba State, said that all those directly or indirectly linked with the sect should be made to face prosecution within the ambits of the law.

The statement read in part: “We congratulate the Nigerian security apparatus, especially the State Security Services, SSS, for this very rare feat. It does show that even with the present parlous state of the nation’s security system, heights could be attained when there is commitment and determination on the part of all especially the field operatives.

We, however, do not want the Security heads to see this as an end in itself but an opportunity to dig deeper into activities of the Boko Haram sect exposing and unravelling its operational dynamics, field tactics, operatives and their local and international connections including collaborators in the government. This would assist the nation’s quest to eradicate the violent and murderous activities of the Boko Haram sect and returning the nation to the path to peace.

“If the speculation that is already in the public domain is true that the Log of Mallam Sokoto’s calls shows serious connections with some politicians in and out of government we demand that these names be immediately made public and these characters be brought to book and if found culpable  be made to face prosecution.”
