Why we ‘re regularising land titles, by Lagos govt

By OLASUNKANMI AKONI
IKEJA— Lagos State Government land regularisation exercise is not aimed at confiscating  property without valid title but to ensure that all property falling within un-committed government acquisition are properly documented and granted legal title where applicable.

Permanent Secretary in the state Lands Bureau, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the exercise was also to simplify and accelerate the process of regularisation of land titles by the grant of a certificate of occupancy in circumstances where un-committed government land had been encroached upon.

”It is also to facilitate the grant of approvals for building plan in conjunction with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for property falling within un-committed government acquisition,” he added.

Advising members of the public to disregard the false information that was being propagated, Muri-Okunola emphasised that the exercise affords those  who inadvertently purchased government acquired land the opportunity to regularise their titles and  obtain a certificate of occupancy.
