At the just-concluded 116th Founder’s Day Anniversary of the Abeokuta Grammar School with the theme: Brain drain and its impact on the society, some members of the Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys’ Association, AGSOBA, were honoured with the Distinguished AGSOBA Award during the Anniversary Awards and Dinner Night.
One of the recipients of the awards ceremony held at the AGSOBA Hall in Abeokuta Grammar School, was the Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Isiaq Salako. In a citation during the presentation ceremonies, the Alumni Association acknowledged him as an outstanding medical practitioner whose year of service has added value to the nation. They described him as an outstanding AGSOBA worthy of emulation by the young ones.
On hand to present the Award to the minister was AGSOBA (Chief) Sunday Oduntan, DA 7681, President-General of AGSOBA and also the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, Karunwi the III.
Speaking at the event, Oduntan, DA said the Distinguished Award is the highest award in AGSOBA and is bestowed on people who have reached the pinnacle of their career.
He further stated that members of the alumni association have been the ones developing structures to ensure that the standard of the school does not reduce while calling on the Awardees to embark on one or two projects to support the growth of the school.
Other awardees who received the award of Distinguished AGSOBA include, Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Ogun State, AGSOBA Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN; Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Professor) Saka Matemilola; AGSOBA Rev (Dr) Olusoji Soogun, AGSOBA (Dr) Bunmi Moseyindemi; AGSOBA Fadekemi Shogunle.
In recognition of excellence, others like AGSOBAs Abideen Olusegun Ibiduni, Mukaila Adeyinka and Isaac Diyan received AGSOBA Merit Award while AGSOBAs Taiwo Olujimi, Folasade Umanemeh and Akinola Solanke got AGSOBA Recognition Award.
The Founder’s Day Anniversary is a yearly event organised to commemorate and bring all members of AGSOBA together to celebrate the great heritage of the school.
