Assassins kill one, injure police officer in Delta

UGHELLI – RESIDENTS of Ughelli metropolis, was Tuesday night thrown into panic, following the suspected assassination of a middle aged man and attempted assassination of a police officer at Ekiugbo-Ughelli.

The man, who was identified as Mr Solomon Poyo was intercepted at about 8pm, where he pulled over in his Toyota Camry to enable his wife buy some drugs from a nearby chemist shop.

According to a reliable source, a vehicle with about four occupants pulled over by the side of the deceased car, adding that two young men came down armed and ordered the deceased to come down from his car and join them.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim who sensed danger flouted the order of the suspected assassins, decrying that the suspected assailants shot him on close range, living him dead.

Speaking further, the source said the suspected assassins shot indiscriminately as they fled the scene, lamenting that the suspected assassins also shot at a plain clothes police officer while escaping.

Confirming the incident, a medical doctor attached to the Ughelli central hospital, said they have been battling trying to save the life of the police officer. The doctor, who pleaded anonymity, however expressed hope that the police officer would survive the attacked.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Delta State Police command, Mr Charles Muka said he was yet to get any official report to that effect as at press time.
