THE Edo state deputy governor, Engr. Godwins Omobayo has received over five hundred of defectors from the opposition All Progressives Congress (AP) and the Labour Party (LP) in his Akoko-Edo local government area which he said is boost to the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo of winning the September 21st governorship election.
Receiving the defectors mostly from Ward Five of the local government area, Omobayo who was supported by the member representing Akoko-Edo I in the state House of Assembly, Hon Yekini Idaiye, chairman of the council, Hon Tajudeen Alade and other leaders stated that the umbrella party has become the beautiful pride of Edo people due to the remarkable achievements recorded by the present administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki in the last seven and half years.
Omobayo affirmed that “Akoko-Edo is a PDP stronghold and the formidable pair of the PDP candidate, Asue lghodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, has become an attraction to well-meaning citizens and residents of the State, they are the symbol of continuity and consolidation of the Obaseki-led administration.”
He urged them to join hands with other party faithful to harvest those remaining in their former parties to vote for Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie, so as to attract the needed development to the council area.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former APC leader of Ward 5, Dangbala, Alhaji Ibrahim Lamidi, Labour Party leaders in the ward, Matthias Igodifo and Comrade Ojeh Ojishua, described the PDP as the only party that would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Dangbala and Edo State at large and they promised to deliver the ward to PDP, adding that it was the only way to reward Governor Godwin Obaseki for his good works and visionary leadership.
The Deputy Governor also received another set of defectors in Ekpesa led by the former APC youth leader in the place, Lucky Adesina.
