Tech expert, Abimbola drives broadband penetration, digital innovation

A distinguished technology solutions and infrastructure deployment leader residing in Lagos, Mr. Abimbola Ogunjinmi is transforming the telecommunication landscape with his innovative and strategic technology infrastructure deployment solutions.

His expertise spans satellite communications, microwave radio systems, optical networks, IP routing and switching systems, and server deployment, making him a rare breed in the industry.

Passionate about technology, Mr. Abimbola has facilitated technology-specific trainings for hundreds of youths in areas such as microwave radio technologies, IP routers, and 2G/3G/4G radio access technologies.

He has led technology project implementation process digitization initiatives that have moved project management activities online, resulting in a 30% improvement in quality and a 15% cost reduction.

Since 2019, Abimbola has spearheaded the large-scale rollout of a multi-technology, multi-year mobile network infrastructure project.

This project, aimed at network modernization and expansion, has brought fast mobile networks to urban and rural centers, boosting the national economy, and creating numerous job opportunities for the youth, including those starting POS businesses and working as trained engineers and technicians.

Mr. Ogunjinmi focuses on deploying solutions and infrastructure that bridge the digital divide, support mobile communication, accelerate a hyper-connected world, facilitate automation, and enable the next generation of technology.

His dynamic expertise has significantly contributed to development in Africa, driving broadband penetration and closing the digital divide.

In 2014, as the rollout manager for LTE infrastructure deployment in Ghana, Mr. Abimbola led the deployment of the first LTE network in West Africa. This initiative drove broadband penetration in Ghana and significantly reduced the digital divide in the region.

His management of satellite system operations in mobile network environments between 2008 and 2013 accelerated the rollout of mobile communication networks in several remote areas of Nigeria.

Abimbola’s excellence and support were instrumental in enabling swift connections for several Nigerian financial institutions.

By setting up secure VPN boxes linking these institutions with the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), he facilitated international payments across the globe. His exceptional knowledge and innovations in technology management have proven pivotal to various satellite solutions in the early 2000.

These solutions have enabled financial institutions in Nigeria to go online, eliminating the need for physical cash movement between banks and mitigating the risk of robbery associated with bulk cash movement.

His expertise has been crucial in helping several conglomerates and oil and gas companies establish connectivity with their remote offices in Nigeria. This has accelerated communication, increased operational efficiency, and optimized overhead costs. Mr. Abimbola’s skills have also been leveraged by oil and gas companies to connect their rigs, including floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) rigs, to their offshore and international offices.

Ogunjinmi’s visionary approach and groundbreaking contributions continue to inspire and influence the field of telecommunication and cybersecurity, establishing him as a leading figure in driving digital innovation and connectivity.

His work is not only transforming the telecommunications sector but also creating jobs, promoting financial inclusion, and bridging the digital divide across Africa.

He has devoted the past 19years of his to career to using technology to improve quality of life. Abimbola is calling on government to join private sector in driving broadband penetration to improve rural and suburban dweller’s quality of life, give them opportunity to potentiate, while revolutionizing industries through technology.

Abimbola holds numerous certifications, including Project Management Professional (PMP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and Professional Scrum Master and Product Owner. He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and a certified rollout manager by Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Networks.

Additionally, he co-authored the telecommunications book “A-Z of Telecom” and regularly contributes to technology discussions on LinkedIn. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Management from Strathclyde Business School.
