AKURE – Cultism and robbery now rank tops of crimes in Ondo State. This came as one  Alaba Alimi, lost his life while another was seriously injured during initiation of seven new cult members in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Six of the cult members were however arrested by the police.

Parading  the cult members and four  robbery suspects yesterday, the state Police Commissioner Sani Mogaji, said one of the arrested cult members was a student of Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State whom he alleged had confessed that Alimi actually died.

Mogaji said the cult members were aged between 18 and 25 and  belonged to the AVE-(All Very Effective confraternity).
According to the commissioner, the deceased died following alleged beating he received during his initiation by the cult members who converged in a bush at Adofure along Akure/Idanre road.

The Police Commissioner said 31 cult members came to the state capital to initiate seven new members on the ill fated day.

However a mild drama took place when one of the armed robbery suspects paraded,  Akilo Ifedayo, said he was arrested when he tried to lure the victim’s wife  through his phone (the victim) after the robbery  for  illicit relationship.

After securing a date with her, the police laid ambush for him and he was apprehended while he was about to picked her up with his car.
