OWERRI— Miscreants and dare-devil hoodlums are gradually turning some public schools in Imo State to hideouts for their nefarious activities.
Vanguard investigations revealed that World Bank Primary Schools 1 and 2 in New Owerri, are currently under serious threat posed by miscreants who not only defecate in the classrooms but also destroy facilities in the schools.
Last Wednesday, the administrative block of the school was set ablaze by unknown persons and varying vital documents, desks and chairs were lost in the inferno.
Addressing newsmen, headmistress of World Bank Primary School 2, Mrs. Victoria Njoku, lamented that gangsters had on several occasions terrorized teachers and pupils.
Lamenting the fire that razed the administrative block, Mrs. Njoku also recalled with grief that on December 29, 2011, an earlier fire destroyed the newly renovated four-classroom block in the school.
According to her, youths forcefully use the school playground for football practice.
She added that their illegal entry into the premises and their attendant activities had drastically reduced the facilities already installed in the institution.
Vanguard recalls that the Chairman of Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, IMSUBEB, Dr. Uche Ejiogu, had already visited the schools to personally assess the extent of damage done by the inferno
