Multi-award-winning media personality, Oruwari Daala, renowned for her dynamic presence and compelling storytelling, has recently emerged as a member of BET Africa squad.

BET Africa was launched in 2015 as part of the diverse multimedia entertainment portfolio of ViacomCBS Networks Africa. The channel celebrates African and African-American culture.

Born in Rivers State and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Oruwari Daala earned a Mass Communication degree from the University of Lagos. She is currently a member of the pan-African Culture Squad, owned by Paramount Africa under the BET Africa Channel.

Daala has anchored various programs throughout her decade-long career, interviewed prominent figures, covered entertainment news, and hosted major events like the 57th Grammy Awards and Nelson Mandela’s burial. She has won coveted awards, including the Nigerian Entertainment Awards’ TV Personality of the Year.

Beyond broadcasting, Daala is a talented model, artist, makeup artist, hair technician, basketball player, and hula hooper, earning her the nickname “The Goddess of Skillz.” Her impeccable style has been featured in Essence and Vogue and earned her the “Best Dressed” award at “The Bling Lagosians” premiere. As an influencer, Daala collaborates with top brands across fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and entertainment. Her artwork has been exhibited at prestigious events, including the Tate Modern Gallery in London.

In an exclusive interview with Potpourri, Daala expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to be part of the BET family and can’t wait to share the Streetz experience with viewers across Africa.” She continued, “BET Africa definitely aligns with things I love. It’s a brand made in heaven, and this is a new chapter where I can’t wait to see the magic that will bloom across the globe.

“Paramount is really a family; when I started, everyone was happy for me to be there, and they have been supporting me throughout.

“This is not my first time being in the media. I have been able to understand how it works for some time. My plan is to showcase Africa on the global stage.

“Being able to be a voice for the next generation of Africa, using my platform to tell our story from the continent. What I intend to do is to use my personality to showcase to the world what Africa is all about.

“My major goal is definitely to inspire the next generation and to tell the African story. I want people to turn on their television and say they want to watch things going on in Africa.”

“I wanted to be a radio presenter, so my journey started by being flexible. I started by calling people via radio, telling them that their partners love them. I often asked them to say their partner’s name; sometimes they did, sometimes they didn’t. I was doing this when someone called me to host a red carpet. Also, I wanted to study Theatre Arts, but my dad said no and insisted I study Law. But I decided to take an interest in Mass Communication.”
