….New generation students try to cope
By Adesina Wahab
Barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu signed into law the bill that changed the nation’s anthem to the one adopted during the nation’s Independence in 1960, the Lagos State University, LASU, has started the use of the anthem during its official events.
On Thursday, the anthem was sang during the press briefing addressed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, to herald the 27th convocation ceremony of the institution.
Most elderly people at the event appeared to be able to recite the first stanza of the anthem without much stress.
However, the use of projectors came in handy to assist the gathering in singing the two remaining stanzas without much trouble.
For the students, who were mostly not born in 1978 when the anthem was discarded, it was just a matter of watching proceedings.
