KADUNA— Former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, has won his bid to return to the Senate after an Appeal Court sitting in Kaduna, Tuesday, ordered the leadership of the Senate to swear-in the former Senator as the authentic winner of the last senatorial election.
The Appeal Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue Makarfi with Certificate of Return as the Senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial Dsitrict.
The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Kaduna had, last November, declared Makarfi winner of the election, following his petition against the declaration of Datti Baba-Ahmed as winner of the said election by INEC.
Reacting to the verdict, yesterday, Makarfi said: “My return to the Senate would afford me the opportunity to contribute my quota towards the resolution of most of the problems facing the country.”
“I want to give gratitude to God for the affirmation of my victory at the Court of Appeal. I take everything as an act of God. I thank the electorate and the entire people of my zone and Nigerians in general for being with me all along.”
