A 63-year-old man, Joseph Popoola, has allegedly stabbed his 38-year-old wife, Ronke, to death during an argument in their apartment in Ori-Okuta community, Owutu Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

 The suspect, who also allegedly stabbed his step-daughter when she tried to raise the alarm, fled the scene after the incident.

According to sources, the couple had a heated argument over infidelity on the part of the man in the early hours of April 28, 2024. The altercation escalated into a physical fight, during which Popoola allegedly gained the upper hand over his wife.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundenyin, confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported at the Ikorodu Police division by one of the deceased’s children. 

According to him: “On April 28, 2024, at about 5:30 am, the deceased’s child reported at the station that their stepfather, Joseph Tony Popoola, had a quarrel with their mother, beat her up, and stabbed her in the lower abdomen with a knife, resulting in her instant death,” he said.

He stated that a team of policemen visited the scene, and the corpse was deposited at the General Hospital, Ikorodu mortuary for autopsy, addi g that the police were still investigating the incident and are working to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
