US-based Nigerian singer Asolo Chika popularly known by his stage name as 2Squad Baba, has advocated the need for stakeholders to engage more artists’ managers and administrative support to help consolidate on the huge success that Nigerian music has recorded on the global stage in recent times. 2Squad Baba made this assertion in a WhatsApp chat during the week.

The Abiriba, Abia State-born singer, believes that with the right professionals serving as managers to the country’s emerging artists, the sky would be the starting point of Nigerian music.

“I think there’s need for us to engage more artists’ managers and administrative support to help galvanize the industry and create a system that will accommodate more professionals and drive the industry and not just the musicians but also, the sound engineers, dancers, costumiers, cinematographers and graphic designers,” the singer advocated.

This, he said, would ultimately help to create more values and become a source of income generating streams for the artists and the country at large.

2Squad, who delved into music way back in 2004, honing his craft at the Aba-based High-rank Studio, before moving to Port-Harcourt’s Sambaz Studio, where he continued to pursue his career in music is one of the Nigerian Afrobeats singers making waves in the United states.

He has in the past 16 years dropped about 30 songs which consist of a 16- track album and many singles. Also, to his credit, he has about 10 music videos out there, which he promoted in Atlanta Georgia. But despite the acceptance of his music in a foreign land, 2Squad Baba still feels unfulfilled without being known back home.

“I always knew that despite the pockets of successes I recorded in America, I was missing something which is home,” the singer enthused. He said that he was inspired to relocate to America, following the low appreciation of Afro hip-hop, back in Aba, where he established his own recording studio.

“Then I couldn’t get what I wanted and had to set up my own home studio in Aba and started producing my songs. The appreciation of Afro hip-hop back then in Aba was very low due to the dominance of the gospel ariaria music. So, I realized it was time to move on, and America was the destination. This didn’t happen on a rollercoaster,” 2Squad added.

The singer said he was looking forward to collaborating with some talented home-based artists even as he hailed the early singers,The Remedies, Plantation bois, Junior and Pretty among others who started the movement that ushered Nigerian musicians onto the global scene.

Speaking further, 2squad who studied Sound Engineer in America, said he was working on his new singles, featuring Epele Makosa which portray the diverse cultures of the people. He’s presently promoting his latest singles, ‘Sugar Baby’ and ‘No Wahala’ which are enjoying massive airplay back home and in the United States.
