Petrol still selling at N150 per litre in Ughelli

By FESTUS AHON
UGHELLI—TWO days after the Federal Government announced the reduction of pump price of petrol from N141 to N97 per litre, following the strike action embarked upon by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC and civil society groups, the product is still sold between N140 and N150 per litre in Ughelli and its environs, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.

Fuel dealers in the area are yet to comply with the Federal Government directives on the pump price of fuel.

At Eso Petroleum on Agbarha-Otor road, fuel was being sold for N140 per litre. At EEBSCO petrol station on Agbarha Road, Ekrejebor, the station was selling fuel at N140 per litre, while GFS was selling at N150 per litre, when our correspondent visited the petrol sations.

Other filling stations in Ughelli main town were shut, except Conoil on Market Road, which was selling at  N100 per litre.

When contacted, the  manager of Eso Petroleum, Mr Tejiri Okpubuluku, could not give reason why his company was still selling at N140 per litre against the directive of government.

At EEBSCO petrol station, the Manager, Mr Peter Origbo, said they were selling at N140 per litre, because it was old stock. He declined comment on the last time they restocked. At GFS, neither the director nor manager of the filling station was on ground to speak, as the fuel attendants declined comment, referring Vanguard to the authorities of the company.

The situation was not different at Conoil as only the fuel attendants were on ground dispensing fuel to a large number of motorists on queque, following the seeming scarcity of the product in the area.
