On April 5, 2024 the highly anticipated films “Ambivalent” and “Kali” made their debut on Amazon Prime, courtesy of Riverside Productions.

Renowned filmmaker,  Ekene Som Mekwunye not only directed both films but also contributed to their compelling storylines.

“Ambivalent” features a stellar cast including Gabriel Afolayan, Derby Frankson, Aries Umusu, and Anita James. The plot revolves around the challenges faced by a woman married to a workaholic husband, leading to a poignant exploration of relationships and the temptations that arise from neglect. The film, produced by Fulfilment ‘Fuchi’ Nwaturuocha, a graduate of the Durban FilmMart Institute producer’s lab, promises to captivate audiences with its emotive storytelling.

Meanwhile, “Kali” boasts an equally impressive ensemble cast, including Lota Chukwu, Bimbo Manuel, Nadine Love, Blessing Martyn, Doddy Abili, Sydney Diala and Preach Bassey. The narrative follows a young woman’s journey of self-discovery as she grapples with her attraction to older men. With the introduction of newcomer Christle Lotanna Chris-Okafor, “Kali” offers a thought-provoking exploration of love and desire.

Having helmed acclaimed films like “Light In The Dark,” “One Lagos Night,” and “Honey Money,” Ekene Som Mekwunye’s directorial expertise shines through in both “Ambivalent” and “Kali.”

 Audiences can expect a captivating cinematic experience that delves into the complexities of human relationships.

Additionally, Mekwunye is gearing up for his next feature film, slated to begin filming soon. With a star-studded cast including Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, Yemi Solade, Jaiye Kuti, IK Ogbonna, and MC Lively, his upcoming project promises to deliver yet another compelling narrative that will leave audiences enthralled.

Ekene, who apart from being an astute movie director and an AMVCA winner  is also an adjunct faculty at the School and Communication, Pan Atlantic University and had been a guest speaker at a  seminar organized by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at their campus in Boston, USA.
