Okuama killings culprits must be prosecuted – Delta chieftain, Uba Michael

…calls for investigation

Good governance advocate, 2023 governorship aspirant in Delta State and Chairman of UBACLE Group, Uba Michael has condemned the killing of military personnel in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Vanguard reports that 16 soldiers were killed after they went on a peacekeeping mission in the community.

Reacting, Michael said it was not a good development as soldiers sacrifice their lives for the nation’s safety, hence, they must be accorded much respect.

He said, “Sixteen is not a small number. And to think that they were on a peacekeeping mission makes it further depressing. Delta State is known for its relative peace. Such an occurrence should be the last of its kind.

“Whatever led to the killings could have been handled with dialogue. These are people who defend our nation and must be accorded all the respect they deserve.”

He called for an investigation and calm, saying “This must be investigated, so we know the root cause of this sad development. The culprits must be caught and prosecuted.

“In doing this, the military must avoid the application of force as most of the villagers have fled their homes due to fear. We must find a way to balance this so it does not get worse than it already is.

“I extend my condolence to the family of every soldier who lost his life.”
