The APC Youth flagged off food distribution to Nigerian youths for the Ramadan Season tagged: City Boy Movement’s Ramadan Food Box distribution.
Presenting the food items to the beneficiaries at the APC Youth Campaign office in Wise 2, Abuja, the Minister of State for Youth and Sports, Ayodele Olawande said the gesture was targeted at vulnerable Nigerian youths and those living with disability.
“We target Nigerian youths and we present to persons with disabilities because we care about them more. The package will feed about 100,000 youth households for four days.
“Our SSA Community Development, SSA Youths, and SSA Students will ensure that the giveaways reach the demographics mentioned that need this the most.
“City Boys are those that stood behind the president before the election, that were everywhere to ensure that election came to reality, and still solidly behind the President. We are a group of people that see things differently from the way it is been seen”.
On the duration of the gesture, he said, “It is a gradual process. It is going to be continued because we have six SSA – youths, students, etc., that will reach out to those that need it”.
In his own remarks, the SSA to the President on Community Engagement Northwest, Abdullahi Tankwayakase said, “This is the holy month of Ramadan, and City Boys has been helping the vulnerable to feed themselves and their families. Government cannot do it alone, we need organisations and groups to come out and support Nigerian communities, and the downtrodden.
“This is the first one we are embarking on this community engagement, from the six zones of the federation, we will go out to each of our zones to replicate it, and distribute food during this Ramadan season.
“The packages, a little box of small Indomie, contains 10kg of rice, sugar, salt, groundnut oil, and sachet tomato paste. It can feed a five-person household. By next week, we roll out into the six geopolitical zones, starting from Lagos to the north. In each of the zones, states are selected where this programme will be carried out.
4,000 households per state will be taken care of in each selected state”.
On her part, the National Convener, Door 2 Door Youth and Women Initiative for Good Governance, Khadijat Yusuf said, “It is the unveiling of the Ramadan Package that our principal and president gave to us this, to distribute to the grassroots. He knows the hardship Nigerians are facing, hence he gave us this palliative to the Muslims to help them have food to eat, to break fast”.
Also speaking, the SSA to the President on People with Special Needs, and Equal Opportunity, Mohammed Abu Isa said the gesture would go a long way in cushioning hunger among his members and giving them a sense of belonging.
“This complements the effort of the government in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu; which revolves around eradicating poverty. We can eradicate poverty by collaborating as a people and individuals to complement the efforts of government.
“Seyi Tinubu has been doing this for a long time, through his NGO, this is not the first time.
“I call all the 35 million persons with disability in Nigeria to continue to pray with this government because we need to give this administration time because it has long-term plan for Nigerians, especially persons with disability”.
He said the target of City Boys was to reach the vulnerable groups in Nigeria and has a Constructive network through which they work and can reach the grassroots in the various geopolitical zones.
