The Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Calabar recently celebrated International Women’s Day by empowering 100 women with food items.
The event, which took place at the Officers’ Mess Moore road, aimed to support and uplift the wives of serving police officers and the wives of deceased police officers in the State.
During the event, the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah, emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and encouraged them to renounce all forms of biased knowledge.
He urged women to put into action the messages of the day, engage in meaningful activities, and avoid idleness.
CP Grimah also called on women to use this global event as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.
Mrs. Julia Augustine Grimah, the wife of the police commissioner, also addressed the attendees and called on women to continue supporting the struggle beyond the celebration.
She highlighted the initiative of Pst. Dr. Elizabeth Kayode Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police in Abuja, who urged them to make a difference on this day.
As a result, the organization empowered 50 Police Officers’ Wives and 50 Late Police Officers’ Wives, totaling 100 women, with food items.
The event concluded with the distribution of food items, including rice and yams, to all the attending women. Overall, the celebration aimed to bring awareness to women’s issues and provide support to those in need within the police officers’ community.
