Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to women’s development and inclusiveness in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said this in Lagos on Friday at the commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD), organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in partnership with some local governments.

The theme of IWD titled “Count Her In: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment. #Inspire Inclusion.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, sought the private sector’s partnership to initiate programmes that would elevate women in the state.

“We are proud of the achievements of our women for your unmatchable support. It is indeed a great day to celebrate your strength.

“We believe in women’s empowerment; we call on the private sector so that we can drive conversations and policies that elevate women while we keep protecting them as well as every resident of the state.

“Your support doesn’t go unnoticed; we appreciate you all. Whatever you do to positively impact society, please do it with all your strength. We will keep creating the environment for you to thrive socially and economically,” he said.

In her remarks, the wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged women to be dedicated in their respective chosen endeavours.

“It doesn’t matter what you do professionally; as long as you stay focused, prosperity can find you anywhere.

“Let’s give our children informal training. As we build our homes, we should build ourselves, and by so doing, we build our society at large,” she said.

In her keynote address, Prof. Mopelola Omoegun, called on women to position themselves by acquiring the necessary knowledge and education.

“I can see more female permanent secretaries and directors, I’m happy to see this, and I applaud Lagos State Government for having an increased number of women at the helm of affairs.

“If there is formal and informal education, get it all and stay focused and dedicated.

“If it is tailoring, be good at whatever you do. There is a saying that behind a successful man is a woman; the best place to be is behind, so you can see everything.

”Train all your children, irrespective of gender. When I was born, my mother was sad because she wanted a male child. I’m the third female child, and I’m here today because I was given quality education. So, you owe your children quality education,” she said.

The state commissioner for Women Affairs, Cecilia Dada, applauded women for their commitment towards building the family and the nation.

She urged women to believe in themselves and celebrate themselves daily. (NAN)
