UGHELLI—A staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, was electrocuted, on Sunday, while carrying out repairs on a 33kVA at Evwreni community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased simply identified as Kingsley was electrocuted while he was trying to reconnect a damaged cable on the high-tension cable transmitting current to Uwheru, Patani Bomadi and communities in the state.

A source from the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity said Kingsley climbed the high-tension pole and in the process of working on the line, light was restored.

“He is from the Evwreni community and we have known him as a BEDC staff all these years, until the unfortunate incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon.”

Contacted, BEDC Public Relations Officer, Evelyn Gbiwen, said: “I am on leave and I have not been briefed, and now that you have told me, let me do my findings, if anything of such happened, it will be mailed to your email box.”

She was yet to get back to this reporter at press time.
