Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has lauded the United Nations agencies for the roles they play to support the development efforts of his administration.
He also commended the agencies for lending assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the state as well as lending support to the resettlement processes for the persons of concern in the state.
The Governor gave the commendation weekend, when he hosted a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, in Makurdi.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, the Governor said, “as a government we commend the roles being played by the United Nations agencies to support the development efforts of our administration.
“Of importance too is the support we get from the agencies for the displaced persons in our state and the resettlement process to have them return to ancestral home.”
He assured that the government would not take the support and interventions for granted promising that his government would continue to work with the UN agencies and other development partners to ensure that the IDPs returned to their ancestral homes.
Earlier, Leader of the UN delegation and Senior Adviser in the Office of the Special Adviser on Solutions to Internal Displacement, Mr. Williams Chemaly explained that the team was in Benue state to explore how it could collaborate with the state government to resolve the IDPs challenge in the state.
Mr. Chemaly commended the warm reception extended to the team by the government and people of the State.
