The sleepy town of Igboho in Oyo State came alive, last weekend, as Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho Adeyemo, pulled all the stops to bid his late mother, Mrs Sarah Abeke Adeyemo, a well-deserved farewell.

With eminent Nigerians, friends and well-wishers, Sunday Igboho, as he is fondly called, ensured that the matriarch’s obsequies remain a much talked-about event for a long time to come.

The three-day funeral ceremonies, which kick-started with a Christian Wake-Keep at the deceased’s residence in Modeke, with loved ones producing spirited eulogies, spiraled into a carnival of some sort, drawing the attention of not a few members of the community.

A day after, a well -attended funeral service was organized at the Zion Baptist Church in Modete where the minister-in-charge, Reverend Remi Adelakun, extolled the qualities of Madam Adeyemo, encouraging as many that were under the ministration to borrow a leaf from her lifestyle.

Other highlights of the service were the rendition of hymns, presentations of Bible readings by members of the family, and no-holds-barred tributes that flowed from the depth of the hearts of those chosen to perform the duty.

The service climaxed with a prayer for the family of the late matriarch, led by Reverend Adelakun. Thereafter, the remains of the deceased were laid to rest in the compound. Guests were treated to a splendid reception at the Sablak Event Center Ibadan where the best of continental and local dishes as well as the best of beverages were served.

Tolu Obey was on hand to entertain the guests as he serenaded all and sundry with melodious tunes. In his brief remarks, Sunday Igboho appreciated everyone that turned up to honour him as he buried his mother. He also extended his appreciation to the government of President Bola Tinubu for granting him the leave to come home to bury his mother.
