UYO— GOVERNOR Umo PG dissolves Ikeja, Apapa branches of UPU, set up steering c’ttee
Eno of Akwa Ibom State has urged citizens to return to farming, even at the subsistence level, to deal with the growing hardship in the country.

The governor gave the charge when he addressed the leadership of the Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, at the Government House, Uyo, yesterday.

He noted that the prevailing hardship was exacerbated by prolonged neglect of agriculture among citizens which has aggravated food shortage.

Eno said Akwa Ibom under his administration was making plans to cushion the hardship on citizens through the establishment of a Bulk Purchase Agency, as short term measure with deliberate commitment to farming by everyone as a lasting solution.

The solution to the current economic hardship, according to him, “is beyond trading blames and rather requires a readjustment of life styles, especially to accomodate farming.

President, CCN, Most Rev Dr. David Onuoha, on the occasion, said the body was in Akwa Ibom for its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting and deemed it necessary to visit the state governor as one of theirs.

Progress Union, UPU, Olorogun Ese Gam has bemoaned the stagnation of the Lagos State branches of the union, saying there was urgent need to revive the Lagos UPU to meet the aspirations and yearnings of Urhobo sons and daughters in the state.

Gam, who made the disclosure at a town hall meeting with Urhobo in Lagos, also dissolved the executives of the Apapa and Ikeja branches of UPU in Lagos and constituted a steering committee to oversee the affairs of the union in the state.

He sai: “From now, UPU is going to have only one branch in Lagos, and whoever did not agree with the decision should approach 18 , Okere Road, Warrior for redress.”
The steering committee headed by Edafe Theocracy has Olorogun Wilson Okpubigho and others as members.
The President General maintained that the decision to dissolve the executives of the Lagos branches was taken by Urhobo as a whole.

, adding that he consulted widely before coming to Lagos, and the royal fathers and stakeholders in the affairs of UPU gave their nods having seen the reality on ground.
