President Bola Tinubu has written the Senate, seeking the screening and subsequent confirmation of five persons appointed as directors of the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The president’s request was contained in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during Tuesday’s plenary.

The appointed board directors of the CBN are Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.

In the letter, Tinubu, who explained that his request was in compliance with the provision of Section 6(1a) of Section 10(1)(2) of the CBN Act, 2007, said, “In compliance with the provision of Section 6(1a) of Section 10(1)(2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) establishment act, 2007. 

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the under-listed five persons as directors of the board of the CBN.”

Also, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking confirmation of Hon Amidu Tadese Raheem from Osun State, as Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC).

Tinubu, in the letter seeking the appointment confirmation, said it was done in accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

In the letter read by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu, who is seeking expeditious consideration and approval of the request, said, “Whilst hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

The nominee, Amidu Tadese Raheem, PhD, is a university don and the current Head of Department of Public Administration, Fountain University, Osogbo.

He hails from the Tadese Royal Family in Iwo, Osun State, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Science (Pol Science) from Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, and another one in Arts and Education from the University of Ilorin before topping them with a Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Master of Science in Public Administration, and PhD in Public Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University.

Upon the creation of Osun State from old Oyo State, Prince Amidu Tadese contested and won a seat in the Osun State House of Assembly to represent Iwo Constituency 1 in 1992. He later emerged as Chief Whip of the Parliament.
