Chinwe Egwim has over one decade of experience in economic analysis formulation, and broad various projects in both private and public sectors. She is a distinguished economist, who has published over 1,000+ economic notes. She has been invited in various seminars in Nigeria and across Europe. Her experience in the Nigerian banking sector, development and consulting as well in the sub-Saharan African countries.
Ms. Chinwe is Chief Economist at Coronation Merchant Bank. She kicked off her career in the Fiscal Division Unit within the research department at Central Bank of Nigeria. In this role, she was a core member of the unit. As a strategic advisor, she guides corporate boards through macroeconomic landscapes, providing predictive analysis and market risk optimization. She actively shapes policy discussions, driving positive change through collaboration with key stakeholders. In 2023, she was appointed to the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee.
A strong advocate for volunteering, Chinwe has held leadership positions in prominent female empowerment and Africa development organizations. Her commitment to strategic volunteering is evident through their involvement with impactful platforms such as WIMBIZ, 9 to 5 Chick, The Women International and Africa Policy Conversation. Notably, she served as the Resident Economist for the research-based initiative, Africa Investment Roundtable (AiR).
While staying in Milan, Italy, Chinwe worked with Fitch Ratings. As part of the sub-National Ratings team, Chinwe played a key role in analyzing economic conditions in sub-Saharan African countries, contributing to credit risk rating reports and various written outputs Returning to Nigeria, she ventured into the private sector, by joining FBNQuest Merchant Bank, an arm of FBN Holdings Plc, one of the strongest financial service groups in sub-Saharan Africa. Her invaluable contributions significantly shaped the bank’s thought leadership. In 2021, she was appointed as the Chief Economist and Head of Economic Research/Intelligence at Coronation Merchant Bank. Chinwe’s leadership has influenced strategic decisions, driving the organization’s growth and stability. She actively engages with multilaterals, government entities, and sub-national bodies. This supported her appointment as a national consultant by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in 2019, where she spearheaded the services trade project aligned with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
