Magic Lab is scaling Africa's creative capacity in animation, game development

Magic Lab Academy is further increasing Africa’s animation capacity by providing professional specialisation training and diploma in 2D traditional animation, 2D Cut-Out, 3D animation, Story & Script Development, CGI & VFX, Game Design & development etc, using both online and offline infrastructures.

Magic Lab Academy is currently enrolling new cohorts and has further expanded its capacity to now admit more cohorts than ever before.

The Academy won the UNDP 2022 innovation Awards and is accredited in the US and Canada, issuing globally recognized certificates.

Magic Lab Academy is the educational offshoot of Magic Carpet Studio, the multi-award-winning animation and storytelling studio in Nigeria (also registered in the US and UK). In the last 7 years Magic Carpet’s feats in 2D and 3D animation contributed significantly to the growth of Animation in Africa, her award-winning studio-owned 2D/3D projects and a satisfied clientele including Cartoon Network, Microsoft, Triggerfish, United Nations, Africa Union etc.

The Market, the Studio, the Vision

Among other things, animation is a major export with an ever-increasing demand, generating billions annually. It is also a cultural export and, so far, western companies like Disney, Pixar, etc and the Asian Anime empire have taken advantage of this.

Africa is largely unexplored as per its wealth of unique stories, art and art styles and massive cultural heritage. Currently, the Africa market share is about 4% of the ≈ $400B valuation of the global animation market.

Magic Carpet Studios is well positioned hyper-locally, and is set soon to become the Disney of Africa. The studio maintains an intellectual-property bank of Africa-inspired stories and African superhero characters, a portfolio of award-winning 2D and 3D projects, an elite client base, a house full of Africa’s best animators, directors and Storytellers, and a strong global network.

Magic Carpet’s mission is to share the rich African heritage with the world through deeply imaginative storytelling and afrocentric animation—elevating authentic African stories to the pinnacle of global entertainment. Magic Lab Academy seeks to increase Africa’s capacity to do this.

The programs at Magic Lab Academy are enriched by the full weight of the industry status, leverage, experience and network of Magic Carpet Studios. To increase Africa’s animation capacity and thus her market share in the global animation market, the academy is raising the next generation of storytellers, animators and artists across Africa, through a robust training program curated and administered by industry experts.

During the program, these cohorts are trained on industry-level projects and, upon completion, are awarded globally recognized certificates accredited both in the US and Canada. They are also exposed to job opportunities, through Magic Carpet Studio and her networks.

Applications are being accepted for the 6-month training cohort. This is open to 3D & 2D specialisation programs or artists seeking professional training, mentoring and to qualify for employment in our animation studio and those of our network.

The firm, in a statement, said intending applicants should visit their website.

“Magic Lab Academy also welcomes investors, partners and collaborators to join this venture in building Africa’s creative capacity,” it added.
