A United States-based Nigerian student, Chancellor Ahaghotu, has emerged as a new Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the longest painting marathon.

Ahaghotu, a Nigerian student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, US, broke the 10-year-old record after a 100-hour painting marathon.

GWR made this known on Wednesday in a post on its official X handle, adding that she painted 106 pieces of various subjects including celebrities, plants, and animals.

“After painting for 100 consecutive hours, Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian art student has broken a decade old record for the longest painting marathon”, the GWR said.

Ahaghotu, with his feat, has exceeded the previous record of 60 hours in 2013 set by a Belgian painter, Roland Palmerts.

Speaking of his new achievements, Ahaghotu stated that the painting represents “my different mood and feeling.”

“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours. It was a new experience for me and I am glad that I completed it.”

“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist. Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.”

“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,” he added.
