Gov. Fubara
…says withdrawal was to reduce tension in Rivers
By Davies Iheamnachor, PORT HARCOURT
The 2023 Rivers State Governorship candidate of Accord Party, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, said he has withdrawn his appeal at the Supreme Court against the election of Sir Siminalayi Fubara as governor of the state.
Lulu-Briggs said his decision to withdraw his case against Fubara was to reduce the political tension already created in the state.
The business Mogul disclosed this in his 2024 New Year message to Rivers people in Port Harcourt, according to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant (Media), Nia’Bari Fakae.
Lulu-Briggs said that the gesture was his contribution at reducing tension in an overheated Rivers polity, saying that it is a token of his commitment to a peaceful Rivers State.
He decried that 2023 was a very difficult year for many Rivers people during which their livelihoods and security were compromised.
Lulu-Briggs explained that the lingering political crisis in the state if not halted, would further worsen the lot of the people.
He, however, commended Rivers people for standing resolute against undemocratic and unconstitutional tendencies, calling on the warring groups to sheath their swords and imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, love and reconciliation.
Lulu-Briggs, who wished Rivers people a happy new year said 2024 provides an opportunity for Rivers people to stop and ponder.
