CALABAR—THE remains of Vanguard’s former  Bureau Chief, Port Harcourt office, Mr. George Onah, have been laid to rest in his home town, Okpoma, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Rev. Fr. Thomas Ogar, who spoke at the funeral service at Christ the King Catholic Church, Okpoma, said the best legacy any living being could leave behind after his death was to have lived a good life.

Administrative/Human Resources Manager of Vanguard Media Limited, Mr. Victor Gotevbe, meanwhile, encouraged the family to be courageous over the demise of their loved one, bearing in mind that there was life after death.

Gotevbe, who spoke at the burial, described the late Onah as a thoroughbred journalist, who always gave his best, adding that the journalism profession had lost a rare gem.

He said though the death was painful, God who is the giver and taker of life knew why it happened when his services were still needed.

Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Okpoma chapter, Sgt. Raymond Ogar (rtd), described the death of Onah as a shock to members of the legion as there was no sign that he was going to pass on soon.

He described Onah as a brave, kind and loving father, who took every assignment he embarked on seriously.

Similarly, Senator Magnus Abe has called on media practitioners in the country to emulate the professional qualities of the late Mr Onah.

Speaking at a special session of tribute organised for him by the Vanguard office, Port Harcourt, in conjunction with the Federated Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State, Abe, who was represented by a member of the state House of Assembly, Mr Legborsi Nwidadah, said the late Onah would be remembered for his contribution to the growth of the media industry.

Chairman of the Federated Correspondents Chapel, Mr Tiver Akase, described the late George as one of the pillars of the chapel, adding that he would be greatly missed by his colleagues.
