…as Mobile Court convicts 59 drivers

THE traffic situation at the stretch of  River Niger Bridge Head, on Benin/Asaba highway is becoming chaotic, even as men of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC have convicted no fewer that 59 traffic offenders.

Vanguard gathered that despite the heavy presence of  FRSC officials and a mobile court within the area, many drivers were uncontrollable and still drove recklessly, sometime against traffic, thereby worsening the traffic  situation.

The Mobile court unit of the Road Safety Corps which was set up  as part of its special patrol activities,  Tuesday,  convicted earring drivers.

Out of 64 drivers arraigned before the Mobile court presided over by Chief Magistrate Nnamdi Onyekwe, five were merely cautioned while others were convicted for various traffic offences ranging from non-use of seat belts, dangerous driving among others. They were fined between N2,000 to N50,000 depending on the gravity of the offence.

Acting Commander of the FRSC in Delta State, Mrs. Patricia Emeordi said that “the special patrol team was in tandem with ’ember months’ campaign tagged Operation Zero Tolerance: Actualizing UN Decade of Action on Road Safety”.
