Former Rangers of Enugu coach, Alphonsus Dike has revealed why he resigned as the head coach of the club after leading to the bronze in the just concluded WAFU Cup.
Dike, who also handled the club to a 6th position in the 2010/2011 league season said he no longer found it interesting to continue as the coach of Rangers, saying that the environment was no longer favourable for him.
According to him: “The environment was no longer conducive for me, but the most important thing is that my contract has expired long before now. I signed a two year contract with the club, it was supposed to end at the end of the 2010/2011 league season but because of the WAFU Cup competition that was on then, I had to continue to help the team achieve their aim of winning the trophy but we couldn’t.
Now, that the competition has ended and we were able to get the bronze, I thought it wise to resign and I do not have the intention of renewing it again. It is my decision to resign.
On the journey so far as Rangers coach, he said: “It was quiet revealing, there was so much challenges in the job but I was able to leave a legacy, at least being able to achieve something from the just concluded WAFU Cup.
Thank God, they (Rangers) were able to get the third position. But in all, my intention was to win the competition. It would have been realisable if the club had rectified certain things in the club.
For the Challenge Cup, we got to the semi-final which was okay. But then, I think that was how God wanted it. It is better than not having anything at all,” he said.
On his next move, Dike said: “I am available for any club that wants my services, it all depends if the condition is favourable for me,”he said.
